Road Cycling

Embrace a new perspective when you set out for some Adirondack cycling on one – or more – of the Adirondack Coast’s scenic bike routes.  Cycle along the New York side of Lake Champlain experiencing history, culture, and nature, or hop on a ferry toward Vermont’s Green Mountains. Continue traveling the official Champlain Bikeway heading north, and you’ll arrive in Montreal.

Pedal to the metal! Go the distance! Better yet, just have fun.

    6.1 miles, easy - A short loop for an easy, yet scenic, family ride.
  • PLATTSBURGH NY'S WAR OF 1812 BIKE TRAIL
    22.4 miles, easy - Learn more about the history of the Adirondack Coast while happily cruising along on your bike.
  • ADIRONDACK COAST AGRICULTURAL RIDE
    29.0 miles, easy - Check out the landscape perfect for agriculture on this route filled with views, smells, and, if you stop along the way, delicious local food.
  • THE FLATLANDER
    21.1 miles, easy - If you’re looking for an easy but long cycling ride, check out this route.
  • ACRES OF APPLES
    24.4 miles, easy - To see many of the Adirondack Coast’s orchards on one journey, follow this cycling route.
  • THE WILLIAM H. MINER STORY
    35.3 miles, easy - See the history of William H. Miner and all the buildings related to him from your bike seat on this journey.
  • COFFEE TO COFFEE
    26.0 miles, moderate - Boost your ride with a little caffeine from two great coffee spots on the Adirondack Coast.
  • MONUMENTS, MILLS AND MUSIC
    35.6 miles, moderate - It’s all in the name. If you want to see monuments, mills, and live music on your journey, check out this route.
  • ADIRONDACK COAST WINE TRAIL
    60.4 miles, moderate - Explore the Adirondack Coast’s wineries on this long cycling route.
  • TASTE OF THE COAST
    43.7 miles, moderate - Get a true taste of the Adirondack Coast following back country roads and surrounded by breathtaking views of Lake Champlain.
  • THE CLIMBER
    38 mile, difficult cycling route, requiring some demanding climbing around the 3,820’ Lyon Mountain. Multiple, major climbs makes this cycling route one of the most difficult, but offers amazing views and an exhilarating ride back to Lake level.
  • OVER THE HILLS AND FAR AWAY
    45 mile, difficult cycling route including some up-hill battles and some cruising downhill slopes. The views of the Adirondack High Peaks and Chazy Lake make this difficult trip worth the cycle. On your way, you can freely use the Macomb State Campsite and Day Use area to catch your breath.
  • STATE BICYCLE ROUTE 9
    Varies in length and difficulty.  New York State Bicycle Route 9 traverses a 345-mile route from New York City to Montreal.  The northern section of the route passes through several communities in the eastern Adirondacks and Champlain Valley on its way to the Canadian border. The Route joins Quebec Route 223 north of Rouses Point and follows the Richelieu Valley and the Chamblay Canal Towpath to Montreal.
  • SARANAC RIVER TRAIL
    1.3 mile multi-use path and bikeway that follows the southern edge of the SUNY Plattsburgh campus. Learn more here.
  • TERRY GORDON BIKE PATH
    1.6 mile, easy path. All on asphalt and quite short in distance, this is the perfect route for a quick ride. Built adjacent to the Canadian Pacific Railway's still active main line along Lake Champlain, this rail-with-trail begins and ends in Plattsburgh with a magnificent view of Lake Champlain and the Green Mountains.
  • WATER'S EDGE TRAIL
    21.8 miles, moderate cycling route winding along the AuSable River, with views of the Adirondack Mountains and river valleys. Be aware that some parts have heavier traffic with limited shoulders. Should you opt for the return route, traveling will be on back roads through picturesque orchard and dairy country.
