In this workshop, students will learn various sgraffito techniques to bring to life their own surface design illustrations. After a brief demonstration of sgraffito on a prepped, leather hard ceramic tile, students will then be given time to sketch out and plan their own illustration, which they will then apply to either a leather hard tile or personal preexisting work that they wish to decorate. Students will be using black slip (or underglaze) over the top of a white clay body, and carving into the slip to create imagery akin to a linocut print. The result is visually striking yet simple in execution. The workshop is perfect for beginners and expert ceramicists alike! Fired pottery will be ready to pick up in 3-4 weeks.
