Plattsburgh Public Library continues its monthly speaker series, Lifelong Learning for All, on the first Wednesday of each month at 5:30 in the library auditorium on the2nd floor. Our series brings local topic experts to the library to share their knowledge with the general community--everyone is welcome! A Q&A/ discussion will follow each presentation.
On Wednesday, October 1st at 5:30, Dr. Vincent Carey, Associate Professor of History at SUNY Plattsburgh, will present "Halloween in Ireland: Celtic Origins, 1960s and 1970s, and Today."
This talk will explore the Celtic origins of Halloween in Ireland as well as Dr. Carey's personal memories of Halloween. Finally, the talk will explore how it has changed since then with the influence of globalism.
Dr. Vincent Carey teaches Medieval and Early Modern history at SUNY Plattsburgh. His most enjoyable community contribution is to the Clinton County "Senior Scholar" program, in which he has taught for years.
