“Sha la la, Joseph, you’re doing fine! You and your dreamcoat, ahead of your time!” One of the most enduring shows of all time, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is a reimagining of the Biblical story of Joseph, his father Jacob, eleven brothers and the coat of many colors. Told entirely through song with the help of a main character Narrator, the musical follows preferred son Joseph. After being sold into slavery by his brothers, he ingratiates himself with Egyptian noble Potiphar, but ends up in jail after refusing the amorous advances of Potiphar’s wife. While imprisoned, Joseph discovers his ability to interpret dreams, and he soon finds himself in front of the mighty but troubled, Elvis-inspired, Pharaoh. Joseph’s solution to Egypt’s famine elevates him to Pharaoh’s right-hand man and reunites him with his family. The magical musical is full of catchy songs in a variety of styles, from a parody of French ballads (“Those Canaan Days”), to country-western (“One More Angel in Heaven”) and calypso (“Benjamin Calypso”), along with the unforgettable classics “Any Dream Will Do” and “Close Every Door.” Appropriate for all audiences and groups, Joseph is performed hundreds of times a year by schools across North America, the U.K. and around the world.
Adirondack Regional Theatre is excited to bring this show to the North-Country with an “In-Concert” style production at the beginning of December. We are looking to highlight the musical talents of the North-Country focusing on musicality and artistic elements. This is the perfect show if you have never performed in a show before or are looking to get back into music or theatre!
This production will offer virtual auditions for those solely interested in an ensemble part. This production will feature a vocal ensemble who will be on-stage during the whole performance. The vocal ensemble will be sitting/standing throughout the show as chairs will be provided on the raised platforms. For those who may be physically limited with movements, sitting throughout the performance is an available option with limited choreo-based movements. We are looking to have a large cast and vocal ensemble, so while there will be many spots available, being cast is not guaranteed.
In-person auditions will be mainly for those auditioning for solos/named roles. Please be prepared to sing a 1-1:30 minute song of your choice. Your song should highlight your vocal abilities as well as match/represent the character(s) you will be auditioning for. If you are struggling to find a song, feel free to use one of the songs from the show. Auditions will be one at a time through a sign-up form lasting 5 minutes each. Auditions will be in front of the production team. Please fill out the Audition form beforehand as it will make the audition process the smoothest and fastest. The production team will contact you the evening of auditions if you are being called back. Call backs will focus on vocal performance, character chemistry, and dance capabilities. The production team will contact you with what you will be specifically called back for and what time you should expect to be there for. Below will list the specific information for auditions and callbacks. If you have any additional questions or accommodations, please reach out to the production team. We are looking to have a large cast and vocal ensemble, so while there will be many spots available, being cast is not guaranteed.
