History Talks: Battle of Plattsburgh Commemoration

September 13, 2025

10am - 12pm

Location:
Trinity Episcopal Church, 18 Trinity Pl, Plattsburgh, NY 12901

Join us at Plattsburgh's Trinity Church during Battle of Plattsburgh Commemoration Weekend for two talks exploring the War of 1812 experiences of local families.

Pat Loughan (President, Board of Directors, Kent Delord House) will present "I Felt It My Duty: The Impact of the War on the Delord Family." Through their letters and other documents of the time, this talk will describe how the events of September 1814 upended the lives of Henry and Betsey Delord for the next decade.

Ellen Adams (Director/Curator, Alice T. Miner Museum) will present "Clement S. Miner: A Military Musician in the War of 1812." This talk examines the experiences of Clement S. Miner, a military musician during the War of 1812 (and grandfather of William H. Miner). Learn about the important roles that musicians played both on and off the battlefield as we follow Clement's path from enlistment in Vermont to some of the war's major theaters, including the bloody Niagara campaign of 1814, to his postwar life back in Clinton County.
