Historic Roadside marker in Port Douglas

OnTuesday, September 29, 2026, a historic roadside marker will be unveiled inPort Douglas, commemorating the military service of American Revolutionary Warveterans. This marker was generously funded by the William G. PomeroyFoundation under their Patriot Burials program, which recognizes individualswho fought in or were involved with the struggle for American independence.This Patriot Burial marker was applied for in collaboration with the EmpireState Society Sons of the American Revolution. 

The unveiling will be held at 1:00PM at the Port Douglas Cemetery, Highland Road, Keeseville, NY. The markerhonors American Revolutionary War veterans Rufus Norton, Asahel Strong, andJoshua Wells, Jr. The ceremony will include brief remarks and wreath laying.The ceremony will take place outdoors, rain or shine, and will lastapproximately twenty minutes. Seating and restrooms will not be provided;attendees are welcome to bring chairs if desired. Immediately following theunveiling, a reception will be held at the cemetery.
