A historic roadside marker will be unveiled in Clintonville, commemorating the military service of an American Revolutionary War veteran. This marker was generously funded by the William G. Pomeroy Foundation under their Patriot Burials program, which recognizes individuals who fought in or were involved with the struggle for American independence.
This Patriot Burial marker was applied for in collaboration with the Empire State Society Sons of the American Revolution. The unveiling will be held at 1:30 PM at Riverview Cemetery, Rt. 9N, Clintonville, NY. The marker honors American Revolutionary War veteran Sergeant Major James Weston (1755-1840). He served from Massachusetts before settling in New York and was buried in the Riverview Cemetery with his wife, Sarah “Sally” (Witherell) Weston.
The ceremony will include remarks from local officials and a descendant of James Weston. The ceremony will take place outdoors, rain or shine, and will last approximately twenty minutes. Seating and restrooms will not be provided; attendees are welcome to bring chairs if desired. Immediately following the unveiling, a reception and program will be held at the nearby United Methodist Church in Clintonville.
The Anderson Falls Heritage Society warmly invites the public to attend.
