100th Anniversary Wreath-Laying Ceremony

August 18, 2026

11am

Location:
Thomas Macdonough Memorial Monument, across from Plattsburgh City Hall

A brief wreath-laying ceremony will mark exactly 100 years since the monument’s dedication and unveiling in 1926.

During the ceremony, City of Plattsburgh Mayor Wendell K. Hughes will announce the renewal of a proclamation first established in 1957, recognizing September 11 as “Battle of Plattsburgh Day” in the City of Plattsburgh in 2026 and in future years.

Following the approximately 20-minute ceremony, the monument will be open for public tours from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The monument is not regularly open to the public, making this a unique opportunity to step inside one of Plattsburgh’s most historic landmarks.
