East Coast Snocross Series comes to Plattsburgh in January
New event to bring over 750 snowmobile enthusiasts to Plattsburgh
Plattsburgh, NY-12/27/2010 — Race teams from around New York, New England and eastern Canada are gearing up for round two of the nine-race 2010-2011 East Coast Snocross Series (ESC) which will be in Plattsburgh Saturday January 8 and Sunday January 9 at the Crete Civic Center. ECS is presented by Akwesasne Mohawk Casino, Woody’s Traction & AMSOIL.
Snocross is a form of snowmobile racing, much like the sport of motocross except on snow. Athletes flip and fly their sleds over tables, banks and jumps to wow the crowd and earn points to advance to the finals. East Coast Snocross is the new sanctioning body for snowmobile racing in the northeastern United States. ECS maintains the largest regional circuit in the northeast and intends to keep grass-roots snocross racing healthy while also cultivating new talent for tomorrow’s pro teams.
In addition to plenty of competitive snocross racing in the Pro, Semi-Pro, Sport, Women and Junior divisions, fans will also witness the biggest freestyle show of the season. The Maine based Rave-X Outer Limits Freestyle Team will perform and former X-Games medalist, Sam Rogers, will attempt the jaw dropping back-flip and other daring stunts. There will also be a number of local and national vendors, on display in the Crete Center, showcasing the latest gear and equipment the snocross industry has to offer.
Airborne Speedway, Casella Waste Management, Plattsburgh Distributing, Della Motorsports, Press Republican, Hall Communications and the Adirondack Coast Visitors Bureau have partnered to bring this event to Plattsburgh for the first time. Organizers, promoters and sponsors of this event are excited for the first year and are already looking forward to several more years to come. Kristy Kennedy, Group Marketing Specialist for the North-Country Chamber of Commerce and Adirondack Coast Visitors Bureau states, “This is truly an exciting event for Plattsburgh to be hosting, not only will it have a positive impact on our local economy but it will also allow visitors to see that the Adirondack Coast is a four season destination.”
This exciting weekend of snocross will take place whether or not there is snow in your backyard, ESC is already making snow to ensure the event will go on as planned! Organizers are expecting 750 people to attend and have close to a full field of 300 sleds registered for the event. Mike Perrotte, Promoter for Airborne Speedway states, “We are very happy to be hosting this event in cooperation with the City of Plattsburgh, the North-Country Chamber of Commerce, and East Coast Snocross. The response from fans and the community has been tremendous. With the caliber and number of competitors that are coming, spectators are in for an exciting event. With most, if not all of the teams, coming from out of our area it will insure a very positive impact on the community.”
Gates open at 10 a.m. and racing get under way at 11 a.m. Admission is $15 per day or $25 for the weekend, children age seven and under are free. Pit passes are also available for an additional $10. Tickets are on sale now at Della Motorsports (corner of Military Turnpike and Route 3), Aaron’s Sales and Leasing (Cornelia Street) or by calling Airborne Speedway at 518.834.9229.
